Amazon’s Virtual Multipacks Pilot is about to Take Off
September 24, 2025

Amazon is launching a new pilot called Virtual Multipacks (VMP) which will change how FBA brand-owners can offer multi-unit versions of their products without the logistical overhead of physical bundling.
What Is the Virtual Multipacks Pilot?
Virtual Multipacks allow Amazon to combine multiple units of a single-unit FBA ASIN into a multipack variant (2-pack, 3-pack, etc.) without physically bundling. It uses your existing single-unit inventory vs virtual bundles that pair together different ASINs.
Each multipack gets its own ASIN/SKU with a prefix of “VMP_” and appears as a variation on the original single unit’s detail page. The pilot is focused on brand-owned FBA ASINs that already show strong demand for multi-unit purchases.
Key Features & Rules
Sellers can edit many listing components of the multipack: price, title, images, description, and run promotions on the multipack ASIN. No new inventory shipments or special bundling required; orders for multipacks are fulfilled by pulling multiple single units.
Pros & Cons for Sellers
Benefits: Higher average order value, lower logistical complexity, more exposure and variant real estate, and promotional leverage.
Risks: Margin compression, inventory forecasting complexity, customer packaging expectations, and limited control over pack size creation.
